SOPA/PIPA

Many websites are blacked out today to protest proposed U.S. legislation that threatens internet freedom: the Stop Internet Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA). From personal blogs to giants like WordPress and Wikipedia, sites all over the web — including this one — are asking you to help stop this dangerous legislation from being passed. Please watch the video below to learn how this legislation will affect internet freedom, then scroll down to take action.

The ghost of a blog has just shown up in your feed reader

Yeah I’ve kind of eschewed the ol’ blog here. I make no apologies for it and I’ve never understood why people fall all over themselves apologizing when they don’t blog. I share on Facebook and now I have a Tumblr, which I suggest you follow/subscribe to because you can stay updated on Gwyneth Paltrow’s salvia.

That said, I did just get a story reprinted (albeit it’s retitled, rewritten, tightened and better than the original, if I say so myself): Master. I didn’t know immediately b/c I had to take that email address off my phone notifications b/c suddenly every time anyone had a thought, Facebook decided to tell me about it.

Other than that, same old same old. All’s well. No one’s gone on the cart. Kids are big & bad. I’ve accomplished much so far in May, after April threw me for a loop.

Zoe just checked “bed” off her “Friday to-do list” and I’m right behind.

Three Historic Events I've Experienced

1981 … Shuttle launch number one- Columbia

I don't like to rank "most" but these are three events that I have sharp memories of where I was, how I heard, and what I was doing.

1. Terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. I was 29.

2. Fall of Berlin Wall, November 1989. I was 17 (first semester of college)

3. Launch of Space Shuttle Columbia, April 1981. I was 9 and watched it outside with my school (we could only see the vapor trails)

Zeus*

This afternoon Zoe said to me, “Alexis says I have another father. A god who lives in the sky.”

Me: “Oh really?”

Zoe: “Yes she says he’s my Other Father.”

Me: “Some people believe in that.”

Zoe: “I don’t believe in that. I’ve never seen him.”

Me: “You’re very scientific.”

Zoe: “Wait! I saw a god once.”

Me: “Oh?”

Zoe: “Yes, I saw gods in Percy Jackson. They were very big and lived in the sky.”

Me: “Well some people believe just in Zeus. They call him different names.”

Zoe: “Oh. Well I don’t believe Zeus is my father.”

Me: “You can believe whatever you want.”

Zoe: “Good.”

Religious discussion of the day: handled.

* Zeus. As in father of Apollo, god of Mount Olympus, don’t f*ck with me or I’ll shove a lightning bolt up your ass, Zeus.
